James E. Talmage, Harvard S. Heath (Foreword), John A. Widtsoe (Appendix), 1998, 9x10" hardbound, 216 pages.

Latter-day Saints are distinguished among other things as builders of temples, and in this respect resemble ancient Israel. This large-format heavily-illustrated book was written to place within the reach of inquirers authentic information concerning the doctrine and practice of temple ministration, as well as to celebrate, with photographs by Ralph Salvage of the Salt Lake City temple interior, the architectural and artistic aesthetics of LDS sacred space.

Upon completion of the Salt Lake City temple in 1893, there was an inordinate interest by the public which prompted church leaders to commission Professor James E. Talmage in 1911, three months before being ordained an apostle, to compile a visual and textual representation for the general public. Talmage's assignment would represent the first time that good quality views of the interior would be framed and that the ordinances would be discussed in print with the church's blessing.
